Luke 1: 5-9
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zachariah… and his wife… was Elisabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years. And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course, According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
It is amazing how the bible illuminates their righteousness and that they were blameless in their walk with God, while at the same time, Elizabeth was unable to bear children.
The bible continues to illustrate how that while facing the shame of having no children even to their old age, they were faithful in their service to God (Zachariah). This is where many get left behind, for many of us, our faithfulness to God and His work is dependent on what He does or doesn’t do.
This couple was consistent in their faith, even to their old age:
- They kept serving God (while he executed the priest’s office – Luke 1: 8).
- They kept their intimate relationship with God (his lot was to burn incense, this speaks of worship – Luke 1: 9).
- They kept praying/believing for a child (thy prayer is heard – Luke 1: 13).
Dear reader, while you are trusting God to answer your prayers, stay consistent in your walk with Him: keep serving Him, keep worshipping Him and don’t stop praying!
Be Blessed
