Psalms 23:1-6
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: AND I WILL DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD FOR EVER.
The Lord Jesus is our true shepherd (Hebrews 13: 20) and if He is your shepherd, it means that He is making you do something or He is leading you and you are following Him.
Now David narrates his experience with the shepherd: he said the shepherd made him lie down in green pastures, led him to still waters, to the path of righteousness, valley of the shadow of death, etc.
The one thing I want you to note about Psalms 23 is that the shepherd ULTIMATELY leads to THE HOUSE OF THE LORD, whenever you are following the true shepherd, He always leads you to the house of the Lord. This means that if you are not rooted in a good church, if you are not an active member in a good church, you have probably stopped following your shepherd.
“… and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
