Matthew 6:19-20
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
I once heard of a story of a man that was tired of poverty, he was so tired that he decided to visit a sorcerer, the sorcerer told him that he could give him wealth, but! the wealth would only last for seven years, and thereafter, it would end and the poor man would die. The man was so frustrated with his state of poverty that he accepted the deal. A short while after, the poor man suddenly became very rich.
With the passage of time, though he had the money and lifestyle he wanted, every year when people would celebrate his birthday, he rather became miserable, because it reminded him that he was getting closer and closer to his death.
Whenever I tell this story, people are often surprised that the poor man took the deal that would cut his life short, but, what most do not understand, is that so many of us (including Christians) often make such deals unawares: whenever you chose to focus your life on wealth that cannot follow you to eternity, you have struck the same deal.
I would like to encourage someone reading this today, please dedicate your earthly days to seeking FIRST the kingdom of God and more specifically, I want to encourage you to dedicate your life to soul-winning: you may not be the one who goes to preach, but you can support this important work, you can be the singer, you can be the usher, you can intercede, you can contribute financially, etc. in whatever way shape or form, whatever it is that you can do, just get involved in this eternal work.
Matthew 16:26
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
